Default atoms are the content Spectare shows when a visitor arrives with no detectable intent signals: no UTM parameters, no referrer URL, no prior click history. They give every cold visitor a coherent, on-brand experience rather than a blank page.
You can mark any published atom as a default inside the atom editor. When multiple atoms are flagged as default, Spectare stacks them in order of most recently updated and uses that set for cold visitors and over-limit fallback pages.
If no atom in your library is explicitly flagged as default, Spectare now automatically falls back to your six most recently published atoms. This means your site always has real content to show even before you have thought about which atoms to designate as defaults, and it ensures the over-limit cache-only path never serves a blank assembly.
Marking atoms as default intentionally gives you editorial control over that first impression. If you leave it to the automatic fallback, the most recently published work takes precedence, which is usually a reasonable starting point but may not reflect the experience you would choose for a brand-new visitor.
