Default atoms are the content Spectare shows when a visitor arrives with no detectable intent signals: no UTM parameters, no referrer URL, no prior click pattern. Every published atom flagged as default contributes to the fallback page, and there is no longer a limit of one per workspace.

Defaults now carry a second role. They are the control that Spectare measures personalisation lift against. When the holdout is active, visitors in the holdout group see the default page, and the performance difference between that group and the personalised group is how lift is calculated. A single-atom control page would inflate the lift number by measuring page fullness rather than personalisation quality, so two or three default atoms make a more credible baseline.

The order defaults appear in is fixed at the time they are created and does not change when you edit them later. The first default renders in full; the rest appear as card faces beneath it. That stability matters because a control that reshuffles every time an atom is saved would produce unreliable measurements.

Set two or three atoms as default to give visitors a complete generic page and to give the lift measurement a fair baseline to beat.
