Guides / Importing content
If you already have a website, you do not have to write your first atoms from a blank page. Spectare can read your existing pages and draft a starting content library from them, for you to review before anything goes live.
One happens automatically when you sign up. The other is a repeatable tool inside the WordPress plugin.

Draft atoms
reviewed and published on your terms
Both land in the same place: draft atoms, waiting in your normal review queue.
When you create your workspace, add the URL of the site you already run. Spectare reads it immediately, no separate step and nothing to configure. Your first atoms are grounded in what your site actually says. If the site turns out too thin for a reliable library, or cannot be read this way, Spectare falls back automatically to ten AI-drafted starter atoms, so your account is never empty while you decide what to do next.

Import and review
lands as drafts
Settings, Spectare Import, inside your WordPress admin.
Open the import screen
In your WordPress admin, go to Settings, then Spectare Import.
Scan your content
Click Scan my content. Spectare reads your published pages in priority order: your homepage first, then the pages in your navigation menus, your other published pages, then your most recent posts, up to 25 pages in one run.
Choose what to bring in
Every page is ticked by default, except legal, checkout, account, and similar pages, which are unticked automatically since they rarely carry marketable content. Tick or untick anything before importing.
Import and review
Click Import selected. Spectare reads each page and rewrites it into focused atoms, one idea per atom, saved as drafts in your Spectare admin. Nothing is published until you review and approve it.
Spectare groups each page under its own headings rather than treating it as one block of text, so a long page with several sections becomes several focused atoms instead of one overloaded one.

Imported atoms land in the same draft, review, approved, published workflow as anything written by hand. See the content guide for the full workflow and writing rules.

Both paths currently read from WordPress
The signup path via your site’s public WordPress REST API, the plugin path from inside WordPress admin directly. On another platform, start from the ten AI-drafted atoms every workspace gets, or use Draft with AI (Pro and above) to generate a first draft from a short brief, then write and refine from there.
Common questions
My import came back empty
If Spectare finds fewer than ten usable sections of content across the pages you selected, it treats the site as too thin to build a reliable library from and stops rather than inventing atoms to fill the gap. Select more pages and scan again, or write your first atoms directly in the admin instead.
The import screen is disabled
The plugin needs your API key entered in Settings, Spectare first. If the Import button greys out for another reason, you may have hit the manual re-import limit: one run every 24 hours below the Pro plan. Pro and Enterprise can import as often as they like.
A page I expected is missing from the scan
Only published pages are ever read, and a single run covers at most 25 pages, in priority order: homepage, navigation pages, other published pages, then recent posts. Publish the page, or add it to a menu, then scan again to have it picked up.
Do I need to review every imported atom before it goes live?
Yes. Import always lands as drafts. Nothing it brings in is published automatically, so your site is never affected until you approve an atom yourself.
Add your site’s URL at signup, or install the plugin and scan from Settings, Spectare Import.
